All businesses will remain open during the enhancement project, according to Ventura Port District General Manager Brian Pendleton.

The painting will encompass all of the village’s exterior buildings as well as two additional buildings that house Island Packers and offices of the Channel Islands National Park. Contracted to complete the approximate $1.2 million endeavor is prime contractor Garland/DBS.   

The paint pallet was prepared by Oxnard-based Coastal Architects, which was commissioned to integrate colors that reflect the sea-inspired hues that are predominant in the enclave and are consistent with the new Portside Ventura Harbor development.

Part of the Plan
The ReFresh project is in keeping with the port district’s goal of continuously improving Ventura Harbor. In 2019, a $4.5 million harbor village Marina Dock Improvement Project was completed, to help bolster the harbor’s fishing industry as one of the largest commercial marinas on the West Coast.

On the heels of that project, the port district invested $61,000 in reopening the harbor’s Dry Boat Storage, which was resurfaced with 88 dry storage spaces accommodating 14 43-foot-long boats year-round.

“The Ventura Port District revitalization projects now provide a greater sense of place to stimulate future economic growth for the benefit of visitors, fisherman, residents and the local business community,” Pendleton said.

Future planned projects include a series of paseos throughout the five-acre Harbor Village and areas for public art, outdoor patios to increase tenant lease space, and informational signage and family elements. Live music on the seaside Harbor Village Promenade stage entertains guests on weekends throughout the year.
